TSA PreCheck and Clear are two programs designed to expedite the airport security process for travelers in the United States. Both programs allow eligible travelers to go through a separate security line with faster screening procedures, which can save time and reduce stress while traveling.
TSA PreCheck is a program operated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which is part of the Department of Homeland Security. TSA PreCheck members are allowed to use a dedicated security line at participating airports, where they can keep their shoes, belts, and light jackets on, and leave laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags. TSA PreCheck members also go through a faster security screening process, which typically takes just a few minutes. To apply for TSA PreCheck, travelers must complete an online application and schedule an appointment at a TSA PreCheck enrollment center. During the appointment, travelers will provide biographical information, fingerprints, and payment for the application fee. Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN), which they can enter when booking flights to ensure they are eligible for TSA PreCheck.
Clear is a private program that provides expedited security screening for travelers at participating airports. Clear members go through a separate security line, where they can use biometric technology to verify their identity and go through security quickly. Clear members do not have to remove their shoes, belts, or jackets, and can leave laptops and liquids in their bags. Clear members also receive priority access to certain airports, which can be helpful during busy travel times.
To apply for Clear, travelers must complete an online application and schedule an appointment at a Clear enrollment center. During the appointment, travelers will provide biometric information, such as fingerprints and iris scans, and payment for the annual membership fee. Once approved, Clear members can use the program at participating airports by using a dedicated Clear lane at security checkpoints. While TSA PreCheck and Clear are both designed to expedite the airport security process, there are some key differences between the two programs. TSA PreCheck is operated by the government and is available at over 200 airports in the United States. Clear is a private program and is available at fewer airports, but offers additional benefits such as biometric verification and priority access.
Additionally, TSA PreCheck is available to a wider range of travelers, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents, as well as members of trusted traveler programs such as Global Entry. Clear is available to anyone who passes the biometric verification process and pays the annual membership fee. Overall, both TSA PreCheck and Clear can be useful programs for frequent travelers who want to save time and reduce stress during the airport security process. While there are some costs associated with each program, many travelers find that the benefits are worth the investment.

Zero-Day Options: Fast Profits or High Stakes? Here’s What You Need to Know
The 2.5% increase for 2025 is calculated based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses the CPI-W to measure inflation by tracking the prices of goods and services, such as food, housing, and medical care. When inflation rises, the COLA ensures that benefits adjust accordingly.
